Chakra UI + Capsize

🚨 chakra-capsize is currently NOT compatible with Chakra UI v2 and React 18, and is not actively being updated. Revert to @chakra-ui/react@1.8.8 if you want to use this package.

Integrating Chakra UI with Capsize is made super easy by using the chakra-capsize community package by ceteio.

To get started, first you need to install the chakra-capsize package:

npm i @ceteio/chakra-capsize

The package exports a theme extension called withCappedText that you need to use in your theme:

import { withCappedText } from '@ceteio/chakra-capsize/theme'
import { extendTheme } from '@chakra-ui/react'
import robotoFontMetrics from '@capsizecss/metrics/roboto'
const theme = extendTheme(
defaultTheme,
{
fonts: {
heading: 'Roboto',
body: 'Roboto',
},
capHeights: {
sm: 10,
md: 14,
lg: 18,
xl: 24,
},
},
withCappedText({
fontMetrics: {
Roboto: robotoFontMetrics,
},
}),
)

To utilize Capsize in your app, you can use the CappedHeading and CappedText components exported from chakra-capsize:

import { CappedText, CappedHeading } from '@ceteio/chakra-capsize'
export const ExampleComponent = () => {
return (
<div>
<CappedHeading as='h1' size='2xl'>
Hi!
</CappedHeading>
<CappedText>
This paragraph will have surrounding whitespace trimmed. It will also
have space between the lines of text reduced to 0.
</CappedText>
<CappedText capHeight='lg' lineGap={4}>
Setting a capHeight overrides any fontSize prop for more exact sizing.
Meanwhile, a lineGap uses the Chakra 'spacings' scale to insert space
between lines of text just like any other Chakra element.
</CappedText>
</div>
)
}

For more advanced usage and theming, please refer to the chakra-capsize documentation.
